About the Role
The HR Specialist serves as a core support role for staff experience, providing day-to-day guidance on employee relations, workplace compliance, and staff development initiatives.
This role participates in most HR functional areas including onboarding & orientation, health & safety, attendance management, learning & development, metrics and reporting, employee relations, and benefits & pension.  The successful candidate will provide support to Supervisors and employees on a variety employee concerns and workplace issues. The successful candidate will play a key role in orientation and onboarding, promoting recognition and attention, and fostering employee engagement across the organization.
This position requires strong interpersonal skills, excellent organization, sound judgment, and the ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion in a fast-paced environment.

Total Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Schedule: Monday to Friday, day shift
Annual Salary: $58,000-$65,000

Expected Start Date: July 6, 2026

Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • CHRP/CHRL designation or working towards certification is an asset
  • 5+ years of progressive, general HR experience
  • Experience in a unionized environment is a strong asset

Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong understanding of employment legislation, HR best practices, and workplace compliance
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety responsibilities and WSIB processes
  • Excellent conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Effective communication skills – listening, speaking and writing
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
  • Strong technical proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint), MS Teams, HR software (HRIS, ATS and training systems) and familiarity with AI

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a primary contact for day-to-day employee relations matters, including concerns, conflict resolution, and guidance
  • Manage attendance, leaves, accommodations, and return-to-work plans
  • Develop and maintain orientation and onboarding programs and materials; participate in the delivery of orientation sessions
  • Coordinate off-boarding processes, conduct exit interviews, report on survey results and make recommendations
  • Plan, coordinate, develop and deliver training; review outcomes from training programs; participate in developing the annual professional learning plan
  • Promote and support employee engagement, employee annual survey and retention initiatives and programs
  • Maintain health and safety incident reporting; submit WSIB claims and coordinate modified work programs; act as support to the Joint Health & Safety Committee
  • Take part in accident and other investigations and meetings, file reports and make recommendations
  • Support compliance with employment legislation, policies and collective agreement interpretation and HR best practices
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and meeting minutes

Certifications & Requirements
  • Must provide Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check and health assessment upon hire
  • Ability to work in an office environment with regular computer use
