Who are we Looking For?

We are looking for a Support Worker to compliment our team!

Reporting to the Inclusion Supervisor, the Support Worker will provide empathy and understanding of children and their specific needs, and assisting children with not only physical disabilities, but also children with behavioural or mental health issues.

This position will be at our Sir Wilfrid Laurier centre and will be scheduled for 12 hours a week.

Pay: $20.45/hr

What are we Looking For?

To be considered for this role, the right candidate will have the following qualifications:

Experience: 

  • Medical background experience, administration of insulin with meals using adjustable dose pen and recording blood sugar readings
  • Experience implementing appropriate strategies  to ensure adequate nots of reading, administering medication and meal choices

Education:  Minimal Secondary School diploma or equivalent

Certifications

  • Standard First Aid with CPR level C
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check
  • Proof of up to date immunization for TB, Tetanus and MMR
  • Proof of COVID-19 Vaccinations

Skills:

  • Demonstrates awareness and knowledge of How Does Learning Happen is an asset
  • Ability to communicate in a sensitive, courteous manner with children, parents, staff, and others
  • Able to stand/walk for extended periods and move/carry equipment and assistive devices

What will you be doing?

Under the guidance of the Inclusion Supervisor, you will support children, families and staff where additional resources are required.

The successful candidate will:

  • Support Umbrella program staff in implementing specific classroom and child management techniques, as recommended by the Inclusion Supervisor
  • Assist with documentation of progress with Individual Support Plans and participate in recommending changes, as required
  • Work in alignment with How Does Learning Happen, ensuring that each of the four foundations is implemented
